Responsibilities
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the University’s financial resources. The CFO plays a significant role in overseeing the University’s financial health and strategic growth, safeguarding financial resilience, and directing investments to support the University’s strategic goals. The role includes accountabilities for all the financial services team including procurement.
As part of the UEB, Mart supports and challenges the University in its delivery of financially sustainable growth, and plays a key role in the annual planning and resourcing process to ensure its alignment with the University’s strategic goals. He provides leadership on the University’s financial strategy, resilience, and compliance, provides assurance to the organisation’s key stakeholders and ensures the provision of financial information that gives insight to drive performance outcomes. Mart also oversees the delivery of the University’s finance service model through effective governance and business partnering, championing diversity and inclusion to support the delivery of a world-class service.
Profile
Mart graduated in Business Studies from De Montfort University in 2000. He completed his professional studies with Rolls-Royce in 2002 and was awarded an MBA from Loughborough University in 2015. Mart’s professional accreditation is to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
Prior to joining the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ in 2026, Mart spent almost 25 years working across multiple industrial sectors at Rolls-Royce including Corporate, Submarines, Nuclear, Marine, Procurement, Manufacturing and Civil Aerospace Aftermarket. During this time, Mart worked and lived in Norway (2008 – 2011) within the Marine Propulsion division. During his time at Rolls-Royce, Mart developed extensive experience in financial planning, technical accounting, Government (regulated) finance, customer service, financial strategy and financial recovery (post COVID). A keen advocate for diversity and inclusion, Mart led the Civil Aerospace inclusion working group which focused on a range of topics from inclusion, wellbeing, belonging and mental health.
In 2024, Mart moved to Yorkshire Water taking up the role of Head of Commercial and Regulatory finance where he focused on embedding outcomes from the price review for 2024 (the water sectors five-year plan) and development of the go forward finance operating model.
