Research publication for Year in Industry student, James Gibson
Description
Dr Yantao Chen (AstraZeneca, Sweden) and Year in Industry undergraduate, James Gibson, have published a one-pot synthesis of sulfonimidamides in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal, RSC Advances. This study provides a new structural modification approach for sulfonamides, which might in the future be of benefit drug discovery and development.

Career Skills for Chemists 2012, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Advantage Award
Description
A second group of students have just completed the School's ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Advantage Award module, "Career Skills for Chemist." This extra-curricular course focused on developing a number of transferable skills (oral presentation, interview, CV writing, team-working, job applications and the ability to identify career path options). The course was delivered by an exceptional group of tutors including members of Ernst & Young, the UoN Careers and Employability Service, the UoN Business Partnership Unit and Teach First.

Supercomputing set to boost region's competitiveness
Description
A £3.5 million supercomputing hub is set to power growth and innovation in the Midlands and London by opening up its vast number-crunching power to local firms. The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is one of four top universities in the region to launch MidPlus, a state-of-the-art high-performance computing centre, to help SMEs and larger firms with the modelling, simulation and analysis needed to design world-leading products and services. MidPlus will also significantly extend the current computing power available within the region's universities.
