Aminta Utting-Simon and Billy Spearman, joint prize winners
The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ invited A Level student to enter the David Garlick Prize. The essays could be written around any subject within the A level syllabus. This included theology, philosophy, ethics, and world religions.
We had a strong field of essays submitted this year with topics ranging from biblical studies to situation ethics. Two essays stood out for their analytic rigour, cogency and nuance.
- Aminta Utting-Simon (Wakefield High School) for 'Religion should be no more exempt from criticism than any other field'
- Billy Spearman (Royal Wootton Bassett Academy) for 'Are all concepts derived from experience?'
We would like to give a huge congratulations to the winners for their excellent essays. The prize winners are awarded £100 in book tokens.
The prize is named in memory of a former student, David Garlick, who made a generous bequest to the department, and is intended to promote our joint disciplines of Theology and Religious Studies.
