Research Summary

Primarily, I am working on a logico-linguistic revision of Ayer's Sense-Datum Theory, and this has involved an investigation into Ayer's deeper epistemological and semantic concerns.

My secondary research focus relates to how theories and problems within Ayer's epistemology intersect and conflict with the philosophical issues raised by linguistic philosophy, such as Wittgenstein's language-games (specifically his hinge propositions and the limits and uses of language more generally) and Ryle's grammatical analysis (in particular his "logical geography" or "conceptual cartography").

I also have a wider interest in specific themes within the history of analytic philosophy, particularly the work of the Logical Positivists (mainly Carnap and Schlick) and Quine, and how this connects with Ayer's reconfiguring of sense-data - or, more precisely, the predicative statements that describe them - as linguistic conventions.
