Four members of the law school’s alumni community—Mary Akugizibwe (LLM in Public International Law (2018)); Juliana Brandão (LLM in International Commercial Law (2017)); Ujjaini Chatterji (LLM in Human Rights Law (2018)) and Florence Marcus (LLM in International Law & Development (2023))—received ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Alumni Awards at the University Graduation Exercises in the summer of 2026. The awards are designed to recognize alumni who have excelled in carrying forward ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½’s values into the wider world.
Professor Dino Kritsiotis, Director of Alumni Relations and Global Relations within the School of Law, delivered the oration for Mary Akugizibwe on Saturday July 25, 2026, emphasized how important this set of recognitions was for law school more generally, especially given the positive and uplifting change that each alumnus has brought to the lives of others. Akugizibwe has spearheaded the creation of the non-governmental organization Global Refugee Initiatives; Brandão has specialized in modern slavery, supply chain transparency and policy analysis in the Brazil Amazon; Chatterji has specialized feminist strategic litigation, arguing on behalf of the Rohingya community before the Supreme Court of India and Marcus is a disability rights advocate who co-founded the Amputee Coalition of Nigeria.
“These are pathbreaking achievements all-round and have done the law school and the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ incredibly proud,” Professor Kritsiotis has said.
