General Surgery
We can offer projects across a range of disciplines including HPB, colorectal, general and breast surgery set across to campuses in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and Derby.
GI Surgery is embedded within the NIHR ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Digestive Diseases Centre which is part of the NIHR BRC. We have a strong research environment with a weekly research team meeting where the Academic Clinical Fellows (ACFs) and PhD students present their work, and we also run a monthly Journal Club.
Alfie Adiamah, a previous NIHR ACF, has completed his PhD on risk of surgery in patients with cirrhosis this year. One of our current ACFs, Alastair Morton, was recently awarded an NIHR Doctoral training fellowship studying variations in the use of FIT testing in England in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Chris Lewis-Lloyd has been awarded funding from Guts UK to undertake database work on the consequences of living with an ileostomy.
