Library loans essentials

You can borrow up to 60 books from our libraries
You only need to return books to our libraries if they are requested by someone else. If you need to return your books, you will receive an email with the subject line 'Your library loan has not auto-renewed'
Check your regularly to stay up to date on your library loans.
You will receive a summary email every Monday evening with details of your current library activity including loans and fines.
The due dates listed in the summary email will change weekly as part of the auto-renewal. You will receive a separate email to let you know your book has not auto-renewed if your book has been requested.

Most books will be issued for seven days and will automatically renew every day for another seven-day period.
If someone else requests a book you have on loan, we will email you to ask you to return the book within seven days. Your book will no longer auto-renew.
Books that are in high demand will be issued for two days only and will not automatically renew. We will let you know if this is the case.
For part time students and those eligible for Enhanced Library Support, high demand books will be issued for four days only.

Return books on time to avoid fines of £1 a day.

If you already have a book out on loan, we will let you know by email. The email subject line will be 'Your library loan has not auto-renewed'.
To check if your book will auto-renew, log in to your Library Account on . Books that will auto-renew will have ‘Renew’ icon and text.
If you borrow a book that has already been requested by others, we will email you with a specific due date.

Return books to the book boxes outside any our libraries.
The book boxes outside James Cameron-Gifford, Hallward and George Green libraries are available 24/7.
If you are self-isolating or have symptoms of coronavirus, please don’t visit the library. Guidance for self-isolating students.

Reserving books is simple using Click and Collect. Place a request on and we'll let you know by email when it is ready to collect.
Find the book on the reservations shelf and issue it to your account at the self-service machines.
We'll hold your reservation for three days. For part-time students and those eligible for Enhanced Library Support, the book will be held for seven days.
If your book has been requested by others and hasn’t been collected at the end of this period, the book will be returned and issued to the next person in the queue.
