David Herbert Lawrence (1885-1930) is ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ University's most famous literary alumnus.
It is fitting that the University's Library should house the major national collection of Lawrence's books and papers. His local roots, in the area he famously described as 'the country of my heart', strengthen the association and have supported the University's development of Lawrence resources and studies.
The Lawrence Collections in the University Library cover all aspects of his life and work. They include published and archival writings, photographs, biographies, and critical literature of his circle and successive generations.
The Collections have grown by gift and purchase, sometimes by single items, occasionally by entire series of books and papers. Many private individuals and institutions have supported the University in creating a resource of international standing.
This statue of the writer, by the sculptor Diana Thomson, stands near the Hallward Library, in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ University's main campus.
