School of Mathematical Sciences hosts Quantum Roundabout postgraduate conference

Description
The Quantum Roundabout postgraduate conference on quantum physics was held in the School of Mathematical Sciences from 6-8 July 2016. The event brings together early career researchers, working at the crossroads between physics and applied mathematics, providing them with the opportunity to network and interact with their peers in related areas, as well as recognised experts.

Astronomers release spectacular survey of the distant Universe

Astronomers at The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ have released spectacular new infrared images of the distant Universe, providing the deepest view ever obtained over a large area of sky. The team, led by Omar Almaini, Professor of Astrophysics in the School of Physics and Astronomy, is presenting their results at the National Astronomy Meeting taking place this week at the University's Jubilee Campus.

Fully automated analysis software takes on Euclid's 100,000 strong gravitational lens challenge

Description
The European Space Agency's Euclid satellite, due for launch in 2020, will set astronomers a huge challenge: to analyse one hundred thousand strong gravitational lenses. In preparation for Euclid's challenge, researchers fromThe ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ have developed 'AutoLens', the first fully-automated analysis software for strong gravitational lenses.

Description

Join us in September for the Faculty of Science Summer Lecture 2026 to celebrate 20 years and find out what children's participation has taught researchers in the School of Psychology about how young minds grow and learn. Our speakers will be Professor Lucy Cragg, Dr Luke Holden and Professor Danielle Ropar from the School of Psychology. Following the lecture there will be refreshments and hands-on activities.
