Essential tasks to complete before you start
Work your way through this checklist of pre-arrival tasks to complete, to ensure you're ready to start your course in September.
1
Request a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (UK students)
While studying on an MPharm course you will come into close contact with potentially vulnerable people or at least learn about their personal circumstances, so the university must ensure that their students have a proven record of good conduct and character before undertaking these types of activities.
You have already been contacted by our Placements Team with details of how to request your DBS clearance.
It is extremely important that you apply for your DBS check as soon as possible.
If you complete your form late it could affect your registration on the programme and/or your placement allocations.
If you have not received the information on DBS checks then please contact the Placements Team as soon as possible.
2
Request an Overseas Background Check or Certificate of Good Conduct (international students)
If you are an international student, you should have already been contacted by our Placements Team with details of how to complete either an Overseas Background Check or a Certificate of Good Conduct.
It is extremely important that you apply for the relevant check as soon as possible. If you complete this process late it could affect your registration on the programme and/or your placement allocations.
If you have not received the information on Overseas Background Checks or Certificate of Good Conduct then please contact the Placements Team as soon as possible.
3
Complete the pre-placement occupational health questionnaire
It is essential that you complete an Occupational Health check as a priority and read the School of Pharmacy Fitness to Practice Policy.
Before you start your course, we need to be aware of any personal circumstances that may affect your ability to study and further progression to being a health professional. All information will be confidentially assessed to make sure you are medically suitable for your course, and where possible all reasonable support will be provided. Completion of the occupational health check is a mandatory requirement of the course. Failure to complete the occupational health check means you will be unable to continue on the course.
The pre-placement questionnaire has been sent to you by email from our occupational health company, Optima Health.
It is extremely important that Optima Health receive your completed questionnaire as
soon as possible. If you complete your form late it could affect your registration on the programme.
If you have not received your email from Optima Health, please email them to request that the link to your personalised questionnaire is resent.
4
Ensure vaccination requirements are met
As part of your occupational health clearance, you will be required to provide evidence that you have had certain vaccinations.
For full information on the vaccinations and evidence required, please read our MPharm Vaccination Requirements guidance document.
