We would like to welcome you to the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the School of Physics & Astronomy. We are delighted that you have chosen to join us, and we look forward to meeting and working with you!
Here you can find out a bit more about how you can prepare to start your journey with us.
Induction
Course inductions for incoming undergraduate and postgraduate students will begin on Monday 21 September. These sessions will include a Welcome talk and introduction to the school and your course of study. Afterwards, you will meet your personal tutor and student mentor to talk about your course and arrange your regular tutorial sessions.
The times and locations for these events, as well as the rest of the induction programme, will be available here later in the summer.
Buying a computer
Computing resources are available in the Physics building and in libraries, but many students choose to bring a laptop with them to university. If you're considering buying a device, we recommend either Windows or Mac with at least 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. (Some students use Linux, Chromebooks or tablets, but these may not run some specialist software used in advanced modules and projects.)
You can access standard Microsoft apps as well as a large library of other software for free through the university.

Check your university email account regularly
Once you have activated your IT account you will have access to your university email address. It’s important to check this regularly, because it is the School of Physics & Astronomy’s primary way of communicating with you.
