Riffat Shaheen is serving as a President at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Student Union (UoNSU), having previously served as Vice President for Postgraduate and International in 2025-2026.
She has completed her MSc in Quality and Patient Safety improvment from UoN. She has over 21 years of international experience in healthcare management, quality improvement & patient safety (QIPS), infection prevention & control (IPC) and student management as SU President in her previous academic education.
She is an ISO lead auditor for 9001:2015 & 14001:2015, and she participated as a national speaker on management of COVID-19 in her home country during the pandemic outbreak. She chaired many international projects and wrote the IPC diploma curriculum, some IPC training modules and a few chapters on healthcare and AI.
Throughout her time as VP Postgraduate and International at UoNSU, she has established herself as a powerful, sector-wide advocate for student interests at both the university and national level. Her efforts include lobbying local MPs, collaborating with the National Union of Students (NUS) and Russell Group Students' Unions (RGSU) to challenge the international student levy, visa progression and academic scammers.She participated as a speaker at the Westminster Higher Education Seminar on the future of Transnational Education and engaged with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) conference to champion international student rights. At the campus level, she also put her best efforts to represent students' concerns during the major university decision-making process, such as the Senate meeting, the Student Experience Committee, the student engagement sub-group meeting, the Contingency Regulation Committee and many other committee meetings as a student's voice.
Riffat looks forward to collaborating closely with fellow Council members to address student hardships, improve their experience, and sense of belonging during their academic journey with UoN.
