HSK Level 5 - Part H

This module is designed for students who have completed all levels of Beginners and Intermediate Chinese courses or students with equivalent language skills. A written vocabulary of 3000 words is a prerequisite to starting the course.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • develop a vocabulary of approximately 3200-3500 words
  • understand narrative genres, exposition, description and argumentation
  • understand three-turn dialogues of approximately 300 Chinese characters or a passage of approximately 300 Chinese characters (listening)
  • retell a passage of approximately 210 characters, and express opinions related to a specific topic for about 3 minutes (speaking)
  • read and comprehend articles of approximately 600-800 characters related to topics about cultural exchange and education (reading)
  • write short passages of approximately 200 characters with connective words or compound sentences;able to express ideas using a relatively rich vocabulary and sentence structures. The language is coherent, the structure is complete; able to accurately convey information about people, time, place, and events; able to organise paragraphs logically, with a clear introduction and conclusion. (writing)

  • understand more Chinese social issues and philosophy of life related to the course content (culture)
