Postgraduate taught MSc welcome

Congratulations on securing your place to come and study with us. We are very much looking forward to you joining the School of Geography as one of our postgraduate students. 

There is a diverse curriculum consisting of input from many experts both within and outside the university, and a varied spread of learning activities. The result is a range of academic programmes that will be a springboard to a career that makes a real difference. As a postgraduate student in the school, you will be part of a diverse and exciting learning community. Before beginning your studies with us, we encourage you to enrol and get started with the NOOC (乐播传媒 Open Online Course) 'On Course for Your Masters', which you will be able to access through Moodle. You will also be able to find a recommended pre-reading list on Moodle.

MSc Environmental Leadership and Management

The MSc Environmental Leadership and Management (MSc ELM) will equip you to lead positive change for the environment in a range of organisational settings.

Over the coming year, you will develop environmental leadership and management competencies by engaging with cutting edge environmental research, cultivating independent critical thinking, developing practical skills for environmental problem solving, and being immersed in real-world environmental settings. 

MSc Global Environmental Sustainability

The MSc Global Environmental Sustainability (MSc GES) explores the environmental, social, economic and political factors that shape sustainable development.

Through cutting edge research on topics of global importance you will develop a range of skills that will help you translate theory and academic knowledge into practical action to deliver real-world change. You will develop interdisciplinary thinking, problem articulation to different audiences, and be able to critically appraise sustainability solutions.

Pastoral care and study skills support 

You will be allocated a member of staff as your personal tutor at the start of the academic year. Your tutor will help you settle into life at 乐播传媒, answer questions you might have about the programme and be your go-to contact for any pastoral care issues for the duration of your degree. 

During induction week, your tutor will arrange a one-to-one meeting with you – this will allow us to get to know you personally and to learn how we can help support you in your studies. The rest of the teaching staff on your programme are all easily contactable via email and happy to answer any questions you may have. 

In addition to pastoral care support, Dr Xandi Zieritz will run two skills-based training sessions in the induction week that will cover topics such as professional writing and academic referencing. Throughout your studies there will be many opportunities for you to interact directly with experts in our school both privately and in larger interactive sessions. 

Getting to know your peers 

There will be many opportunities for you to get to know your MSc peers and to be part of our school's postgraduate community. Much of your learning across the programme will be done via interacting with people you're studying alongside. 

Through in-person workshops and the use of specially designed digital learning platforms, you will be able to discuss new ideas, plan projects and create outputs in teams, just as you would in practice. There will also be opportunities for you to connect informally with your peers and to make new friends.
