We often get asked about making friends at university. The following activities can help you meet others on your course and build connections.
The English Society
Organised by students in the School of English, this vibrant society provides a variety of social activities throughout the year. Find their stall at the Welcome fair, check their Instagram or see the Students’ Union page for information on how to get involved.
CommuniTea events and common room
The School of English common room (A90, Trent Building) is your go-to space to relax, refuel, and get things done. You’ll find a handy mini kitchen with a microwave and kettle, filtered water, and plenty of study space, including soundproof pods, plus comfy seating for when you just want to unwind. There are a limited amount of lockers available if you need somewhere secure to store your things while you’re on campus. Priority is given to commuter students or students with a disability.
We also host regular CommuniTea events during term time, perfect for grabbing some free refreshments, meeting other students, and taking a breather from your studies. There are often fun activities or special guests too!
Read your departmental weekly email bulletins to see what’s coming up!
Postgraduate socials (PGT students only)
Each year, we organise a range of social events just for master’s students. These are perfect for bringing together postgraduates from across the Faculty of Arts. They’re a great chance to unwind, enjoy some food and drinks, and get to know others in a relaxed, friendly setting.
We share all the details in the weekly email bulletins, so keep checking those emails and come along!
